Going for the Gold

Another amazing and entertaining Olympics are in the record books.

Here are my observations:

The music business is MORE COMPETITIVE than the Olympics.

My point is evidenced by these facts:

1. Anyone can try to compete in the Music Business. You, your grandmother, your 6 year old , your dog can do a music video/song and get it on Spotify, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc. There are no qualifying entry requirements. There are a reported 100,000 songs per day being added to Spotify. Recently Spotify announced that songs with under 1,000 streams would not qualify for any payment (that .0007 cents per stream). Over 83% don’t have at least 1,000 streams.

2. It would take over 570 years to listen once to all the songs that are available now on Spotify alone.

3. What if the Olympics allowed anybody to compete that wanted to. Hordes of people competing in each event. Ridiculous, I know, but get my point, which is: how do you stand out in this huge competition?

4. The Olympians must put extraordinary effort and financing into their training, equipment, regimens, and be fortunate to stay healthy enough to perform their skill. Oh, and have innate talent, excellent trainers, and Repetition, Repetition, Repetition..

5. If you are serious about trying to compete for the “Gold” In the Music Business You must pass through all the “filters”, You must have the song, the voice, the sound, the promotion, the appeal, and the mysterious “it” that rises to the top- and importantly the business part of the music business to be competitive.

6. One thing to increase your chances of success is to throw some smart money at the Goal of Gold.
